General Information

Austria has on of the world’s lowest birth rates, at 9 per 1000, ranking 217th in the world. This is even less than the crude death rate, which stand at 10 per 1000.This is most definitely a factor in which the natural growth rate of Austria is at 0.0, and predicted to go down, ranking 190th in the world. The growth rate had been predicted to be -0.497 by 2050. This clearly shows Austria is at stage four in the demographic chart, and is predicted to reach stage 5 in the near future. The total fertility rate is only at 1.4, which is extremely low compared to the perfect 2.1 fertility rate. This also pales in comparison to the infant mortality rate with stands at 3.7. The infant mortality rate per 1000 is at 4, and the infant mortality rate per 1000 under 5, is at 5. Migration hardly helps increase the population as the percent of migration is only at 2 per 1000. In addition, the life expectancy of Austrians is at 80, creating other population challenges. (Above U.S. Census Bureau, 2010)

Life Expectancy to Income From 1800 to Present Day

1800-1867

The life expectancy of Austrians remained constant at 35 years of age. The income increased from 1500 to 2600 though.

1867-1913

There was a jump in the life expectancy from 35 to 46 and the income continued to increase from 2 600 to 5 500.

1913-1944

Between these years, the income dropped, rose, then dropped, and then rose once again. Throughout the years, the high was 6 500, while the low was 3 500. The life expectancy continued to rise to 60 years of age.

1944-1945

Here, the income plummeted from 5 800 to 2 600.

1945-2009

There was a general increase in life expectancy and income. It was quite dramatic until the present years when change was less apparent. The income rose from 2 600 to 35 600. The life expectancy rose from 61 years to 80 years.

Population Increase from 1600 to 2025

There was little change in population throughout the whole time period in comparison to other countries. There were no big jumps, the population increased slowly and progressively. The population change from 1600 to 2025 is estimated to be 2.5 million to 8 million (Above all from Gapminder)
